Completing the High Table
You'd usually only find high tables in a restaurant or bar but these days it’s just as likely to find them in the living room or kitchen, especially if you're the kind who likes to relax way up high. While it’s a bit too much to go for the full high table counter that you see at the restaurant, you shouldn't go for a slim glass high table either. Despite the fact that you can stand on it, dance on it or even jump up and down on it, a glass high table just doesn't feel as comfortable or as solid as a hard wood surface high table or bar. These days it’s quite easy to find wooden high tables or bars but you're going to have to do some searching to get ones that have a solid stand. If you have the money to burn a full high table counter top is probably the way to go, but if you're willing to search finding a nice and solid high table isn't impossible, especially with the huge array of options in today's digital world. For the most part, while you can go and search for the wooden high table of your dreams in the furniture shops around your area, the Internet and online shops offer a huge array of choices from material, shape and even size. You may have to pay for a bit more to get it shipped, but it sure beats driving around wondering if you're going to be disappointed with the next furniture shop you go into. Once you've got your high table, you have to get your perfect complement, the high stool or chair. Contrary to popular belief by some European designers, having a plastic stool with a spring in the shaft does not feel that comfortable especially if you've got a little extra weight on you. The sensation of the chair planning to give way as the spring squeaks in protest is compounded by the fact that you're sitting so much higher up than usual. That being said, you should always try to get a solid high stool. Sure you can add on a bit more comfort by having one with an extra padded cushion, but the higher your stool, the more solid the stand has to be. While some people may actually like the spring suspension, most people don't, preferring a tough sturdy stool over one with a spring down the shaft. Again contrary to popular belief, most stools aren't that comfortable, especially if you have a weak back. For that reason you should try look into high chairs of the adult variety. A few even come in wicker, complete with short back stand for extra support.
